Blank Page When Viewing a Redirected PDF File in Internet Explorer

Problem

There is an intermittent synchronization problem between Internet Explorer 5.X, 6.x and Adobe Acrobat / Acrobat Reader versions 4.x and 5.x. The problem occurs when Acrobat is setup as a "plug-in" to Internet Explorer (or an AOL browser). This can result in the PDF file not completely opening or the browser locking up.

There are two solutions to resolve this problem:

  1. Turn off Web Browser Integration and view the PDF file in Acrobat.

  2. Update to Acrobat Reader 6 or newer.

Solution 1

From Acrobat 4.x or Acrobat Reader 4.x

  1. Select File > Preferences > General.

The General Preferences window is displayed.

  2. De-select the checkbox beside Web Browser Integration.

  3. Click OK.

Web browser settings have been changed.

From Acrobat 5.0 or Acrobat Reader 5.0

  1. Select Edit > Preferences > General.

    The Preferences window is displayed.

  2. Select Options from list in the left window pane; then de-select Display PDF in Browser.

Web browser settings have been changed.

Solution 2

¨  Update to Acrobat Ready 6. Click here to update to the latest version of Acrobat Reader or visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.
